Northern Liberties is an up and coming place in Philly , not quite in the bad part of North Philly, it is affordable compared to Center City, and has recently produced some nice eateries, BYOB's...
Oh and does anyone know of a good apartment or housing complex in Northern Liberties in the 500 range for a single or studio? I'd appreciate it if someone knew - Thanks, I'll check back...
The Fire is not too far from Northern Liberties. It features live music, and has separate bar and music room. It is a great dive, and is next to the firehouse from which its name comes from.
Finnagans Wake (Sp) is the college filled dance bar of that area. I always have a blast there because I always leave stumbling. It is a multi-floor bar with a large stage and various other rooms with bars. It's easy to get lost in this place on a Saturday night. Compares to Grape street, Reeds in Blue Belle, the old Brownies 38th. You know typical blown-out college sports-bar with a cover band playing to a sea of drunken college girls.--Milkman

Girard Avenue has a good selection of bars in this area, and when I go to visit my friend out there, we head toward the Ave.
