This is the route Ben and I took during our 2007 cross-country tour. I moved from San Francisco to Northern Virginia in April of 2007, so Ben and I decided to use the opportunity to get a better look at the United States. We covered roughly 3,500 miles over 7 days, drove through 13 states, spent exactly $458.46 on gas, and dropped somewhere around $1,000 each on hotels and food (most of that being over the course of a single evening in Las Vegas). During our tour, we learned a lot about this great nation. For instance, we discovered that there is a Denny's waiting off of every single last exit in the entire United States. And we learned that if a hotel close to the highway has vacancies, you probably don't really want to say there.
