My brother visited Manitou Springs when he saw a jam festival out in CO - he said it was like he stepped back into the 60's during this festival, but according to your map, maybe it is always like that there!
Interesting take on Colorado spots... some good, some clearly bad from your point of view. but then, we can't like everything eh? And I agree, it seems like the military tends to mix training grounds with wildlife areas... I think it's hard to avoid. (How to find an area large enough to shoot a large object, but not disturb the "neighbors". Never mind the native wildlife that may have been inhabiting the area first:).
